The Hidden Cost of the Cheap Agency
The agency that quoted you half the price of everyone else was not cheaper. They were a delayed cost. And by the time you discover how much, you have already paid twice for the same thing.
The calculation seems simple. Agency A quotes £12,000. Agency B quotes £4,500. You choose Agency B and save £7,500. Straightforward maths.
The problem is that the maths is wrong -- because it is missing the most significant variable: what does the cheaper option actually cost over time?
What the Low Quote Actually Buys
A significantly lower price means something was cut. Either the developer has less experience, the process is less rigorous, the technical standards are lower, or some combination of all three. This is not a judgment. It is economics. Building a high-quality web system correctly takes time. Time costs money. If the price is low, something is being compressed.
What gets compressed first is the work that does not show up immediately: proper security architecture, semantic HTML structure, performance optimisation, clean database schema, documentation. These are invisible on launch day. They become visible about eighteen months later -- when something breaks, when you need to update something, when you need to add a feature, or when a security issue surfaces.
The Rebuild Tax
The most common pattern we see is a business that built a site cheaply, lived with its limitations for two years, and now needs a complete rebuild. The total cost at that point -- original build plus rebuild -- is typically 40% more than a quality build would have cost the first time.
The cheap option is usually the expensive option. It just charges you in instalments, spread over the frustration of a site that never quite does what you need it to.
The Opportunity Cost
There is also the revenue side of this equation. Every month a low-quality site is representing your business to potential clients is a month that site is underperforming. The cost of that underperformance -- in leads that did not convert, in clients who chose someone else -- does not appear on any invoice. But it is real.

Your Website Should Be
Winning You Clients. Is It?
Most business owners who read this far already know there is a gap between what their site communicates and what their business is actually worth.
