Three Questions Every Prospect Asks Before They Contact You
Before any high-value prospect fills in your contact form, they have answered three questions in their head. If any of those answers is wrong, they do not get in touch -- and you never know why.
The conversion from visitor to enquiry is not a single event. It is the conclusion of a short, mostly unconscious evaluation. Understanding that evaluation is the key to building a site that converts at a higher rate -- without redesigning everything.
Question One: Is This Business Relevant to My Situation?
The first question is about fit. Does this business do what I need, for businesses like mine, at roughly the scale I am operating at?
Most service websites answer this question poorly because they try to appeal to everyone. "We work with businesses of all sizes across all industries" tells a prospect almost nothing about whether this business understands their specific situation. The more specific you are about who you serve and what problem you solve, the faster a qualified prospect self-identifies -- and the faster they decide to move to the next question.
Question Two: Are They Competent at This?
Once a prospect has decided you are relevant, they need evidence that you can actually deliver. This is the job of your case studies, portfolio, and the quality of the site itself. The site as an artefact is evidence of your technical and creative capability.
Vague testimonials do not answer this question. "Great to work with" does not tell a prospect that the work was good. Specific results, specific industries, specific problems solved -- that is the evidence that moves someone from "possibly relevant" to "probably the right fit."
Question Three: Is the Risk of Getting in Touch Low?
This is the question that kills more conversions than the first two combined. Even a prospect who is convinced of relevance and competence will not contact you if the perceived risk of doing so feels high.
Risk in this context means: will I be pressured into something I am not ready for? Will this turn into an hour-long sales call? Will I lose control of the conversation?
The answer to this question lives in your call to action. The language around it, the friction level, the commitment implied. "Get a free written audit with no obligation" removes all three risks. "Book a 45-minute discovery call" reintroduces them.
Make it easy to say yes to the first step and most of your conversion problem solves itself.
We make the first step free, written, and specific. No pressure.
